About
I write books and journalism, contributing to The FT, The Times, BBC Culture, World of Interiors, The Gentlewoman, The Telegraph, the TLS and the V&A magazine. My book about the Edwardian painter Mabel Nicholson came out last year and I’ve just finished a biography of Marie Antoinette’s favourite painter, Élisabeth Vigée Le Brun, for the National Gallery.
I also write catalogue essays (for museums including the National Portrait Gallery, the Barbican and the Thyssen-Bornemisza National, Madrid) and work with galleries, artists and photographers on exhibition texts, forewords and digital content. I cut and edit manuscripts for both authors and publishers.
Between 2003 and 2022 I worked at The Telegraph, where I was visual arts editor and a features writer, and before that for a Modern and Impressionist art dealer.
